Television News Analysts
Also known as news anchors or newscasters, news analysts report and interpret the news from a news desk, relying on news that is provided to them by others, including reporters from the field. News correspondents report to other newspapers from where they live either elsewhere in the United States or outside the country. All of these types of journalists may specialize in one type of news, such as sports, or may be a general newscaster.
A news analyst tends to have a hectic schedule with long hours. Journalists who work in the field can be called to report or record the news at any time of day or night. All television analysts need to present news that is only given to them for review shortly before they are put on the air. Being able to talk off the cuff and without much preparation is essential.
When exploring television journalism, remember that there are both network news channels as well as 24-hour cable news channels.
Newspaper Journalists
The experience of a newspaper reporter depends on where the journalist falls on the totem poll. Some may work from late afternoon until midnight whereas more seasoned journalists have a more typical work schedule.
